Avoid excessive water exposure.
One of the biggest things that you can do to help make your nails stronger is by avoiding excessive water exposure, which leads to the softening of your nails. As our nails absorb water, the nail beds expand as the water is being absorbed and then contract as the water evaporates. This leads to the nails being noticeably flimsy and easier to peel. One way to avoid excessive water absorption is to wear rubber gloves when cleaning dishes, spend less time in a warm shower and swimming pools. Doing this will help to make nails stronger.

Massage the nails with Olive Oil.
Olive Oil is something that we all have in our kitchen pantry’s, and to our luck, it does wonders to heal weak nails. The olive oil moisturizes the nails, helps repair damage and softens nails and cuticles. So how is it done? You’ll want to massage your nails thoroughly with warm olive oil, just enough to cover the top and underside of your nails. Let that sit for about 15 minutes, and then wash it off using warm water.
Repeat this treatment two to three times a day. If you’re looking for something a little less involved, you could also mix about three teaspoons of warm olive oil and one teaspoon of lemon juice. Using a cotton swab apply the mixture you just created onto your nails and let it dry, once it’s dry, put on a pair of soft, cotton gloves. You can do this daily before bed and in the morning, just rinse it off with warm water.
Green tea wonders.
Green tea is another way to make your nails healthy and strong; this is because of the antioxidants in green tea help to strengthen nails and prevent brittle nails – it also helps get rid of yellow discoloring. To do this remedy, you’ll have to first brew a cup of green tea and let it sit and cool before using. Once it has cooled down, soak your nails for 10-15 minutes – this should be done twice a week.
Flax Seeds remedy.
You could also use flax seeds; the micronutrients (i.e. B vitamins, magnesium, zinc, protein, etc.) are necessary for nail health and help strengthen nails. This is a very simple remedy: all that needs to be done is to rub some flaxseed oil on your nails and gently massage it for a couple of minutes before you go to bed. You can add a couple of tablespoons of flaxseed to your cereal or smoothies, which is another way to include flaxseed in your diet to continue healing your weak nails.
Consider Apple cider Vinegar.
If you want to strengthen nails, apple cider vinegar is another option for you to consider. This is because the acidic nature of the vinegar can prevent and treat nail fungus. You should mix equal parts of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar and water in a small bowl. Once it has been mixed, just soak your nails in the solution for 5-10 minutes once daily for a couple of weeks. If you don’t have time to sit and soak your nails, you can also mix one teaspoon of raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it three times a day.
You could start taking Biotin supplements, which are water-soluble vitamins that have been only scientifically proven to strengthen nails. If you choose to use this remedy to heal your nails, you should check with your doctor before starting to take the vitamin daily – Biotin supplements are non-toxic with no known side effects, but it’s always best to check first.
How long you wear Nail Polish.
Try to limit the amount of time your nails are painted with nail polish. Trying to keep a manicure or pedicure for as long as possible is one of those things that we just try to do without thinking: they take forever to do and do a good job on, and if they’re professionally done they can be quite expensive. But, having nail polish on your nails for too long can actually cause a lot of damage to the strength and health of your nails. It doesn’t matter if you’re using the safest and best nail polishes, they too can leave your nails brittle, thin, and dry if you keep them on for too long. Instead of trying to keep that polish on for too long, you should fully remove it after five days and allow the same amount of time for your nails to recover before re-painting.
Avoid growing your nails out
You should always cut your nails shorter; this is because shorter nails are far less likely to be broken during your everyday routines. It’s understandable to want to grow your nails out as long as you could want, but long nails are easily traumatized and broken throughout the day. Keep in mind that I said cut your nails: DO NOT BITE YOUR NAILS. Biting your nails leads to, not only damage to your nails but can also result in inviting bacteria or fungi infections into your body: which is not good.
