We all know that there are a variety of body types that we all possess, and usually we know what dress looks the best on our body types. But does it really hurt to get some do’s and don’ts when it comes to wearing dresses that complement our body shape? Dresses can look great on your friend, but the moment you try it on it looks like a bag – we’ve all been there. So why does it do that and how can you make a dress look amazing on you? Pear Shaped Body

If a woman has a pear-shaped body, the lower section of your body is larger than the size of her bust. You will also be able to notice her hips, thighs, and lower section is more noticeable than other parts. Finally, the shoulders will appear to be narrow and sloping.
The goal to dressing up is to elongate and balance your figure by focusing more on the top half of your body. To do this, you should try an off-the-shoulder dress that is a fit-and-flare to help show off the curves that aren’t just on your lower half. Apple Shaped Body

If a woman has an apple shaped body, her middle section will hold the most of her weight, and her lower half will be slimmer. This means that you will have thin arms, wide shoulders, and a middle section that holds all of your weight.
The goal for you should be to wear clothes that take the attention away from your middle section and accentuate other parts of your body, such as your shoulders and legs. You should consider things that are a little flowier in the middle of your body, but that show off your shoulders, legs, etc. You should try a shift dress! A shift dress lies just enough away from the body to hide any problem areas you want to conceal, and you can even hem it so that it shows off your beautiful legs.

Straight & Rectangular Shaped Body

If a woman has a straight & rectangular shaped body, this means that both her waist and bust are similar in size. With a rectangular body, while standing up, you should notice significant curves in the waist area. This body type is one of the most common body types in women.
The goal for you should be to add texture and volume to your figure. Go for something that has a belt or even frills. Try a belted dress that has frilly capped sleeves, and that shows off the curves in your waist area.
You should avoid wearing dresses that look like plain old shifts, try to add some volume and accentuate your curves!

Banana Shaped Body Type

If a woman has a banana shaped body, this means that she doesn’t have many curves and her hips are around the same size as her waist. It will look as though you have no top part of your body, and a full bottom half.
The goal for you should be to wear clothes that highlight the thinnest part of your waist; this will make your hips and bust look larger and more proportional to the rest of your body. You should try something that will make attention go to your top half, for example, a dress that has a ruffled strap. If you’re feeling a little edgier, try a dress with side cutouts to really add some curves to your figure. The best rule of thumb for someone with this body type is to find clothes/dresses that will draw attention to the top half of your body.
You should avoid wearing clothes that won’t accentuate the curves that you have; this will make you look like you don’t have a figure to begin with – which is not true.
Hourglass Shaped Body Type
If a woman has an hour glass shape, this means that she’s curvy but has a tiny waist.
The goal for you should be to wear clothes that will highlight your curves and emphasize your waist. You should try a dress that has a belt, or even a wrap dress, that will cinch in your waist and accentuate your figure. Show off those curves, don’t hide them! No matter what body shape you have, you’re gorgeous regardless! There is not right and wrong when it comes to how what your body looks like. These are just a few tips that you can choose to follow, or not, to choose a dress for your body shape, and really work the type of body you have and make you feel really empowered.
